I pray all is well with you and your family. While we recognize the importance of our annual trip to Haiti, regretfully, we had to cancel our trip in August this year because of COVID-19. Although this was an extremely difficult decision to make, the health and safety of our travelers remained the top priority in everything we do. Our boys under our care and the Lathan Community in Haiti were very saddened with our decision to cancel the trip because the need is greater than ever.
As you know, Haiti has been the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere for many decades. Approximately 59 percent of Haitians live on less than $2 a day (World Bank, 2013). COVID-19 coupled with growing food insecurity and civil unrest have further complicated the situation. Hence, the Haitian people are in dire need.
